A Night to Remember: A Stunning Lakeside Dining Experience in Tay Ho

Finding the perfect dinner spot for a large group of nearly 20 people—comprising four families traveling together with plenty of children—was quite a challenge for us in Hanoi. As first-time visitors to Vietnam, we had spent the day navigating the buzzing streets, endless honking, and the city’s frantic pace. However, our evening turned truly magical the moment we discovered Chào Bạn.

Chào Bạn – A Beautiful Sanctuary by West Lake

The stunning tropical garden caught our eye from the very first glance.

It wasn’t a planned destination. We were simply wandering, looking for a place to rest our feet and feed our hungry group, when the restaurant’s picture-perfect facade caught our eyes.

Standing before the restaurant’s signature green gate, we were instantly enchanted by the courtyard’s atmosphere. Tucked away in a quiet alley among closely-knit houses, Chào Bạn appeared like a secluded oasis—beautiful, pristine, and incredibly cozy.

The children were immediately drawn to the lush greenery. Vibrant bamboo groves lined the walkway, while large ancient trees provided ample shade, creating a sense of relaxation and closeness to nature. The highlight, however, was the lighting. A warm, golden glow emanated from meticulously designed lanterns hanging from the branches, making the entire space feel like one giant, soothing lantern. The neatly trimmed trees, glossy green leaves, and perfectly arranged tables all reflected a deep level of care—as welcoming as the home of a close friend.

For our group, this outdoor space was the ideal choice. Rather than feeling confined in a closed room, we were able to breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the open sky after a long day of exploring Hanoi.

Vincent Cao Minh Page – The Heart of Hospitality

While the ambiance drew us in, it was the hospitality that made us want to stay. Shortly after we settled in, we were introduced to Vincent Cao Minh, the owner and head chef.

In many upscale establishments, management can feel distant, but Vincent is the exact opposite. He possesses a rare, genuine friendliness. He didn’t just welcome us; he truly engaged with us.

Upon learning we were on a family journey through Vietnam, he became an impromptu “tour guide.” Vincent suggested several must-visit travel spots that offered both breathtaking scenery and authentic Vietnamese specialties.

What touched us most was his sincere attention to our experience. Managing a large group and ensuring dishes are served timely and to everyone’s taste is no small feat. Yet, Vincent checked in frequently to ask about the flavors, whether the kids were enjoying their meal, or if the wine was to our liking. That personal touch turned a simple dinner into a warm, heartfelt gathering.

An Enticing Culinary Journey

Though we were charmed by the setting and the people, the cuisine was the true star. The menu at Chào Bạn elevates traditional Vietnamese dishes with a modern, sophisticated touch.

Traveling with children is always a culinary challenge, but the restaurant offered a special noodle dish just for kids. It was simple yet nutritious, and so flavorful that my children finished every last bit without any coaxing—a small miracle for any traveling parent.

Meanwhile, the adults started with the Banana Flower Chicken Salad. It was an explosion of flavors: crunchy, zesty, and incredibly refreshing. Two main courses that left the whole group in awe were the Grilled Pork with Mac Mat Leaves and the Oven Seabass in Banana Leaf. The pork was succulent, infused with the distinct aroma of Mac Mat leaves, while the sea bass was grilled to perfection, retaining its natural sweetness and tasting exquisite when paired with the passion fruit sauce.

Following Vincent’s recommendation, we paired our meal with a bottle of red wine. The light tannins and fruity notes complemented the rich, smoky flavors of the grilled dishes beautifully.

By the time we left for our hotel, the children were sleepy and satisfied, while the adults felt a profound sense of relief and happiness. We had shared a truly joyful, bonding dinner. Chào Bạn provides more than just a great meal; it offers a friendly and comfortable atmosphere where guests can truly unwind, immersing themselves in the space, the food, and endless conversation.

If you are in Hanoi and looking for a beautiful, spacious venue for family parties or gatherings, paired with dedicated service and soulful cuisine, do not hesitate to visit Chào Bạn at Villa 28, Alley 11, To Ngoc Van Street. Thank you, Vincent and the team, for giving our “extended family” such a memorable night on our Vietnamese adventure.
